Where can I purchase a fishing license?

Most Tennessee fishing (and hunting) licenses — except the Lifetime Sportsman License and specialty licenses such as Wheelchair, Disabled Veteran, Intellectually Disabled and Blind Fishing licenses — are available online and at most county clerks, sporting goods stores, hardware stores, boat docks and from all TWRA offices. You can also purchase them online through https://www.tn.gov/twra/license-sales.html.

Where should we eat?

There are so many options around our area! You can find anything from a bologna sandwich to a gourmet meal – of course some would argue that bologna is a gourmet meal, but that’s not what we’re talking about. There is a limited number of chain restaurants and many mom-and-pop diners that feature home-cooked meals authentic to our area. Please visit our dining page for a list of area options and choose what suits your tastes.

Where is the nearest doctor’s office?

Byrdstown Medical Center on Hwy. 111 (8401 Hwy. 111) and FirstChoice Family Care (601 West Main St.) in Byrdstown are staffed and ready to serve you during normal business hours. Livingston Regional Hospital, located in Livingston, Tennessee, at 315 Oak St., is the nearest Tennessee emergency facility and hospital when our local facilities are closed. The area is also serviced by Air Evac, so even big-city hospitals are close at hand most of the time.

The local health department is located at 1013 Woodlawn Dr., Byrdstown, TN.

Where is the telephone office?

Our Byrdstown office of Twin Lakes Telephone is located at 828 W. Main St. They are currently in the process of building a new facility on West Main just down the road. Go to www.twlakes.net for more information.

Where is your electric office?

Our Byrdstown office of Volunteer Electric Cooperative is located at 1109 Olympus Dr. Upper Cumberland Electric serves those south of Dale Hollow Lake. Their office is in Livingston, Tennessee.

Where is the water department?

The water and sewer department is located in Town Hall at 109 W. Main St., Byrdstown, Tennessee.

The Byrdstown-Pickett County Welcome Center is located at 1005 Livingston Hwy. in Byrdstown, Tennessee. The Byrdstown Post Office is located at 300 W. Main St.

Do you have an EV Charging Station?

YES! It’s located in the parking lot of the Pickett County Library at 79 Pickett Square Annex, right behind the post office.

Where’s the library, and what do they have to offer?

Pickett County Library is at 79 Pickett Square Annex behind the post office. It’s a wonderful place to visit! They offer all of the usual library services such as computer access, books, audiobooks, DVD rentals and so much more. One of the greatest assets to visitors is the genealogy section. If you are looking for information on local ancestry, this is THE place to go. The local historian provides appointments to assist in your search, but the facility is well stocked with information every day.

Where are the waterfalls on the lake?

Waterfalls do exist, BUT they are generally ON PRIVATE PROPERTY and do involve a hike on hazardous terrain. So, please respect the property owners and your own safety.

Where are the government offices located?

Most of the main offices are located in the main level of the courthouse. That includes the county court clerk’s office (vehicle registration, marriage licenses, boater registration, etc.), clerk and master, trustee’s office (pay your land tax there), register of deeds and tax assessor. In the lower level, you will find the circuit court clerk’s office. In the top level is the courtroom, the sheriff’s office and jail.

Located in the Byrdstown Community Center are the Pickett County election office, agriculture extension offices, senior center, UCHRA (Upper Cumberland Human Resources Agency), soil conservation office and the veterans service office.

The Human Services Department is located at 8816 Hwy. 111 in Byrdstown.

The director of schools office is located at 141 Skyline Dr., Byrdstown.

The nearest Drivers’ License Testing Center is located in Cookeville, Tennessee, at 4600 S. Jefferson Ave.
